Jamila's spaceA very special place that I call my own
September 30 Arabian Nights by the Beach - Week 3Ok great! So none of you so-called "buddies" had the guts to participate in the Hawaiian dress-up up competition. But glad to know that you all had fun anywayz. It was really really crowded but I could see that the guys were pretty comfortable squeezing in with the ladies - hmphf! This week is probably the biggest turnout so far, and I was actually feeling quite nervous before the performance. Great to see more people coming for the bellydance introductory workshop and Im sure youll grow to love bellydancing as much as I do. The Hawaiian dress up competition was just so hilarious. Well done to those who actually dared to do the dance and catwalk in front of so many people, and congrats to the person who won it. This week will be the last week of Arabian Nights for this season. It''s also your last chance to come down and support me yeah? So Im assuming that for those who haven't come down, I'll be seeing you this Saturday at 6.30pm @ Cool Deck, Siloso Beach? September 23 Arabian Nights by the Beach - Week 2Last Sat’s event was spectacular to say the least. I had woken up in the morning with a terrible headache and I was sooo close to not being able to make it. Well, I did in the end and I was glad I did - it was awesome. This week was really different from the last in the sense that it had a totally different atmosphere. Hmmm, how do I say it? Erm…I would term it as a romance-filled evening coz the setting and ambience were just so warm and cozy. And the band, my goodness, those guys were fantastic. Now, what were they called? Al Bedouin Music Ensemble if I’m not mistaken? They really entertained the crowd with a host of soulful melodies. Simply a delight to listen to. And of course, there were the babes from Bellydance Discovery. Haha. Yvonne, Daphne, Alex, and Jim, thanks for being there. Love you guys! The theme for this Sat is Hawaiian - a definitely must visit if you adore men and women in grass skirts. Haha. So have you guys signed up for the Hawaiian dress-up competition yet? If you didn’t get my hint the first time, you can find more information here. There are really interesting prizes to be won including a Sentosa Beach Resort stay and Islander memberships. And best of all, I’ll be there. So what’s your reason for not coming? September 18 Arabian Nights by the Beach - Week 1Sat night's event was a whole load of fun for me and the rest of the girls. I was really nervous at the beginning of my performance but it got a lot better after a while. Did you all enjoy it? I wasn't expecting such a crowd at all. How many did we have there? 800 people at least? Truly amazing! I'll be down again this Sat for another performance. Think the theme for this week is Middle-Eastern beats so that would be something I¹m really gonna enjoy. Middle Eastern tunes are so mysterious and it makes you feel so sexy when you are performing. Haha! I kinda twisted my back a little during the week and it still feels a tad numb. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a Sinseh? But it¹s definitely not going to stop me from showing up on Sat, so see guys there. Anyone wanna share a cab? J Oh yes, I hear there is also going to be a Hawaiian dress up competition on 23 Sept during the event. Please come down in your best hawaiian outfits yah? Hmm, there's going to be a prize of a resort stay so who's volunteering to win that for me? Check out this link or more details. See yer!' September 05 My Stopover in DubaiEager to put my new pair of sandals to the test, we (Willie, Joan, and yours truly) arrived in Dubai, somewhat feeling jetlagged from the 4 hour flight that we had just been on. It was just gonna be a stopover for 2 days before we returned to Singapore. Nevertheless, we were all reveling in anticipation as to what this great city would bring us. Besides knowing that Dubai was a shoppers' paradise for art, handicraft, and fabric, we were practically clueless on what we wanted to do here. But with all the magnificent designs and sculptures welcoming me, I was beginning to like this city already. (I am such a sucker for all things Middle Eastern) After checking in and getting comfy, we bought ourselves a local city tour which took us to landmarks such as the Jumena Mosque, Dubai Museum (which was the 150 year old Alfahidi Fort) and a few other palaces. The rest of the day was spent on shopping. The second day started the same way as we ended the first - with more shopping. After lunch, we decided to learn more about the city's culture by visiting Dubai's Heritage and Diving village. The hour or so that we spent there helped us get acquainted with Dubai's rich maritime and trading past, as well as very interesting local history. Next on the agenda was the Desert Safari coupled with a delicious barbeque dinner and belly dancing show. By the time we got back, we were all beat. We left Dubai about 8am the next morning and headed back home. |
